Umatilla—In a game the Vikings depseratly needed to win to right their ship, the Vikings came up short losing to the Vikings of Umatilla 42-39.
Vale head coach Jeff Jacobs said this game was one of momentum changes from the start.
“Every time we got some momentum, they (Umatilla) would steal it back,” Jacobs said. “We were playing catch up all night.”
Umatilla began the shoot out with the first score, followed by a Vale touchdown to knot the score at six.
Umatilla opened the game up in the second quarter with three touchdown, while Vale only mustard one and the Vikings of Umatilla led 28-12 at the break.
In the second half, it was Vale who did most of the scoring as they outscored Umatilla 27- 14 . Vale tallied 12 points in the third and 15 in the fourth quarter, but needed four more for the win.
Vale did, however, have one last ditch effort with 17 ticks on the clock.
Umatilla fumbled the pigskin on the Vale 1-yard line, giving Vale one last shot.
Vale quarterback Kyle Barras rolled out for a pass, turned up field and pitched the ball to Russ Seals who in turn advanced the ball for a few yards before he pitched the ball to Michael Epperson who took his shot at reaching the end zone, but he too had to pass off the rock as he found Jarrod Tucker who finished the last ditch effort play as he was tackled at Vale’s 40-yard line to end the game.
Vale will look to rebound Friday when Burns comes to town.

It may go down as the snow-bowl, because the Council Lumberjack and the the Idaho City Wildcats hit the battle field which was covered in five inches of snow.
But in the end, the snow had little effect on the potent Lumberjack offense as they pounded Idaho City to the tune of 56-20 in 1A division 1 action in Idaho City.
Council’s Tyler Farrar, may be part Polar Bear, as the conditions did not hamper his efforts, as he cranked out 284 yards of rushing on 29 attempts.
Council put up 14 points in the first quarter, 22 in the second and 20 in the fourth for the win.
Overall, the Lumberjack offense was good for 449 total yards, 341 of which came on the ground.
Through the air, Council also found some success as Lumberjack quarterback Keith Heil tossed for 108 yards and two scores.
With the win the Lumberjack improved to 5-1 overall and remain perfect in conference play at 3-0.
Council will host Horseshoe Bend, Friday at 7 p.m.

After one quarter of play, there was no doubt the Adrian Antelopes had this game won. The Antelopes posted 28 first quarter points on their way to an 82-28 slaughtering of the Burnt River Bulls.
Adrian collected 19 first downs, rushed for 414 yards, passed for 109 yards and created five Burnt River turnovers in the win.
Adrian improved to 5-0 on the season in the Special district 6 league standings with three games remaining, and none bigger than Friday’s match up with Crane, who is undefeated with a 7-0 record.
Adrian’s Blake Purnell led the team in rushing with 74 yards, and George Ellsworth added 70 yards. Adrian had 16 players log positive rushing yards in the game.

Prairie City
The Harper Hornets battled Prairie City to the bitter cold end with a 30-24 win.
The two squads matched each other touchdown for touchdown through the first six scores, but on the seventh score of the game, it was Harper in the end zone last and picked up its second win of the season.
The Hornets were led by Steven Casiano who rushed for 233 yards, scored three of Harpers touchdowns and tossed another.
Harper will host Spray-Mitchell at 2 p.m. Friday.
