Payette—Payette seniors Shelbi King, Codi Webster, Hailey Schmidt, Becky Scott, Mary Hershey and Lexi Bond were honored before Thursday’s Snake River Valley Conference match at home against McCall-Donnelly and sent the crowd home happy with a 27-25, 25-8, 25-15 three-game sweep over the Vandals.

“It was nice watching those seniors. They all played in the first game and it was nice watching them play together,” Payette head coach Suzie Burley said. “I remember watching them play when I was coaching in a different town, so it was nice to see them out there.”

Bond threw down 13 kills, Hershey added eight digs and Webster kicked in nine kills and three blocks to lead the senior crew.

Freshman Ashley Dillon dished up 18 assists and racked up 16 service points along with two aces, while teammate Terra Knighten rounded out Payette’s statistical leaders with eight digs.

Burley was happy to see her team turn the corner, a welcomed sight when looking back at the Pirates’ past few matches.

“We actually got our groove back tonight,” she said. “We hadn’t played this way for a couple of weeks. We have really been working on eliminating mistakes, and tonight we were able to do that.”

Payette (7-3 overall, 4-3 league) travels to Weiser Tuesday.
