George Jacob Buckway, Jr., 82, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away Oct. 9, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the Nampa LDS Fourth Ward Chapel, 121 N. Canyon St. in Nampa. Viewings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd., in Nampa and from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the services. Arrangements are being provided by the Zeyer Funeral Chapel. 467-7300
George was born June 9, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Geert Jacob Boekweg Sr. and Annie Marie Bohn. He enlisted in the Navy in May of 1944 and completed boot camp at Camp Farragut in Northern Idaho. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged May 22, 1946. He loved his service to our country.
He was sealed to Patricia Lorene Shaw on Sept. 2, 1953, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked for Chevron Pipeline in both Boise, Idaho, and Northern Salt Lake, Utah, and retired after 35 years of service in 1986.
He loved his association with Benjamin and Daisy Shaw (his in-laws) and enjoyed spending time with them. He esteemed them as his own family.
After the death of Patricia, George later married Myrna Colleen Fuller.
They were married Nov. 8, 1986, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They resided in both Fruitland and Nampa, Idaho, and enjoyed 22 years of marriage.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Myrna, served a full-time LDS mission in the New York, Rochester Mission. He enjoyed his work in the mission home, maintaining the fleet of vehicles and giving tours of the Hill Cummorah.
His many hobbies included fishing with his children and grandchildren, woodworking, roofing, baking his family Christmas treats, popcorn and pies.
In the summer, he spent his time canning produce. He also spent many hours extracting thousands of names from microfilm records for genealogical purposes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Lorene Shaw; parents Geert Jacob Boekweg Sr., Annie Marie Bohn; brothers, Carl, Melvin, Leland and David; sisters, Virginia and Marie.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Colleen Fuller; his brother, Joe (Geri) Buckway; children, Vicki Smith, George III (Teresa) Buckway, Robert (Jann) Buckway, Blaine (Julie) Buckway, David (Eva) Buckway, Lori (Clint) Miner, Virginia (Allen) Gross, Beverly (Scott) Pexton; 32 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
