Daniel Arriola ‘Danny’
Feb. 10, 1926-Sept. 13, 2008



Coquille

A memorial gathering will be held for Daniel “Danny” Arriola, 82, of Coquille (formerly of Westfall), from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a blessing at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Vale, Ore. Interment was at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens in Coquille.

Danny was born Feb. 10, 1926, in McDermitt, Nev. (but on the Oregon side), the son of Ysidro and Marselina (Achabal) Arriola. He died Sept. 13, 2008, at Springfield, Ore. He was raised and educated in Andrews, Ore., and then Harper, Ore., where he graduated from high school in 1943. He served as an Army paratrooper from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. After the war, he was married to Mildred I. Smith on Oct. 23, 1947, in Vale, Ore.  They owned and operated a cattle ranch in Westfall, Ore., for 51 years until retiring in 2001 when they moved to Coquille.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, raising and training horses, reading, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his dogs, Lucy and Bessie.

He is survived by: wife of 60 years, Mildred Arriola, Coquille, Ore.; son, Frank and Susan Arriola, Coos Bay, Ore; son, William and Lynda Arriola, Coquille, Ore.; son, Gene and Kaye Arriola, Coquille, Ore.; son, Tony and Stephanie Arriola, Bandon, Ore.; daughter, Tammi and Greg Herman, Canby, Ore; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother,                                                Segundo and Edna Arriola, Bridgeport, Ore.; brother-in-law, Sonny and Judy Smith, Coquille, Ore.; sister-in-law, Mona and Paul Mendiola, Payette, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Carrol Arriola, and a brother, Dionisio Arriola.
