Vale netters on a role; Lady ’Lopes win two

Vale—The Vikings won their fourth straight match in a span of eight days taking a pair of Eastern Oregon League matches over the weekend.

With the run, the Vale squad is all alone in second place, just one game behind first-place Burns.

In the first match of doubleheader against league opponents Umatilla and Riverside, the Vikings scored an easy three-game sweep over Umatilla Saturday in Vale.

Vale won the opener 25-10 and dominated the second game by a margin of 25-8, and were one game from the clutches of victory.

The Vikings completed the sweep with a 25-6 score in the third game and kept the unbeaten streak in tact.

Chloe Winters, Amy DeLong and Shelby Mooney spiked six kills apiece and Brooke Hawkins added 13 assists.

Daishel Clark finished with 12 assists, Janessa Cooper reeled off 12 digs and Kayla Voorhees did damage from the service line connecting at 12-for-13 clip with four aces.

Thursday, Shelby Mooney rattled off 13 kills and Janessa Cooper picked up 23 digs to lead Vale to a four game win over Grant Union.

The Vikings kicked off the match in style with a 25-15 win in the opener and marched on with a 25-22 win in the second game.

The Prospectors battled back to within a 2-1 deficit with a 25-12 score in the third game.

Vale answered the call in the fourth and dispatched of Grant Union with a 25-18 decision.

Chloe Winters had a solid evening with six kills and went 17-of-17 from the service line. Amy DeLong rifled six kills and Daishel Clark kicked in 11 assists for the Vikings.

 Vale (4-1 league) hosts league opponent Nyssa Thursday.

Adrian 3, Spray 0

Adrian 3, Mitchell 0

Mitchell — The Lady ’Lopes volleyball team needed only three games to dispatch Spray in High Desert League volleyball action Friday in Mitchell. Adrian won 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17.

Adrian’s McKenzie Purnell knocked down nine kills, served up seven aces and dished out five assists to lead her team to victory and to an 9-4 overall and 6-0 HDL record.

Andrea Shenk stepped up with seven kills and seven aces, Terra Rust added six kills and an ace and Madison Shira logged six aces, two kills and 13 assists.

However, the Lady ’Lopes day was not over. Following the Spray victory, Adrian took on Mitchell and gave the Loggers the same treatment they gave Spray, a three game sweep, winning 25-9, 25-20 and 25-16.

Again Purnell led her team with seven kills, three aces and a block kill, while Rust added five kills and four aces. Shenk was good for eight service aces and four kills, and Shira added two aces, a kill and 12 assists.

Adrian will host Nyssa Monday in a non-league match up.
