Out of left field: What a great last week in football

Starting with the prep athletes, what more can be said about the Payette win over Weiser this last weekend.
I know most of the people living north of Payette are ready for everybody, including myself, to stop talking about the game, and Friday’s game in Homedale cannot come soon enough.
I am not going to get into how big of a win this is for Payette, or vice versa for the Wolverines, I am just glad to see the Snake River Valley conference is becoming more than a two-team race.
I like to see the competition levels rise, and I really like to see more than just a couple of teams with a real shot at winning the conference.
I do have to say, I heard a lot of good things about Payette in the preseason, as Weiser’s coach John Srholec had a little trepidation in his voice when he was talking to me about the Pirates. Nothing against his team, he just knew how good the Pirates would be this year.
Taking a step up, into the college ranks, there were a lot of big games in college last week, as well.
The weekend in football started with the No. 1 team in the land, USC, falling to the giant killers of Oregon State.
This win for the Beavers came to the detriment of a co-worker, but it was still a good game to see the Beavers pull it out, as I do like to root for the underdog.
What can be said about the Alabama thumping of then No. 3 Georgia? I know the Crimson Tide was in the top 10, but again, they were an underdog, on the road, and pulled out the victory.
Some of the other upsets of the week, include the No. 4 Florida Gators falling to Ole Miss and also No. 9 Wisconsin falling to Michigan.
And then, it is always nice to see my favorite team pick up a big win and move to 3-1 on the season, go Buccaneers.
This week is shaping up to be another great week in football, as Vale travels to Grant Union, Payette hosts McCall-Donnelly, Weiser travels to Homedale and Parma hosts Nampa Christian.
And many more.
So, whoever your team is, get out there and support them this weekend. Who knows, maybe they could pull of the upset of the week.
