Ontario swept by Baker City

In a tough road date against Baker City, the Ontario volleyball team could not match the Bulldogs’ height on the front lines, as Baker City worked a 3-0 win over the Tigers in Greater Oregon League volleyball action Tuesday in Baker City.

The Bulldogs cruised to easy wins in the first two games with 25-14 and 25-15 decisions, and in the third game, Ontario showed some fight down the stretch, ultimately losing a 27-25 nailbiter.

Ontario (1-1 league) travels to La Grande Thursday.

Fruitland      3

McCall      0

Coming off a solid performance during the weekend at the Bonneville Volleyball Classic Tournament, the Fruitland volleyball team blasted through McCall-Donnelly with a three-game sweep in Snake River Valley Conference action in Fruitland.

The Grizzlies came out firing on all cylinders from the opening serve, with a 25-8 win in the opener, and walloped the Lady Vandals to the tune of a 25-10 score in the second game.

The third game was the best output for Fruitland, as they sent McCall packing with a 25-7 decision.

Kylee Nawahine led the way with 19 kills and six aces, and Sarah McGinley chipped in 14 assists.

Fruitland’s Whitney Mahler rounded the statistical leaders with two digs and a stuff block.

The Lady Griz (6-1 overall, 4-0 league) host Weiser at 7 p.m. Thursday on senior night.
