Milton-Freewater—Down 1-0 at the half, Ontario High School girls soccer captain Kim Boyd and Alexis Jagelski had seen enough, so they let their teammates know it.
The Tigers came out with reckless abandon. Sparked by a goal and assist from Boyd, Ontario posted the come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Mac-Hi in 4A Special District 7 soccer action in Milton-Freewater.
“Kim talked to us and told us what we should be doing,” defender Alysha Smith said. “They (Boyd and Jagelski) were speaking really calm and made it sound like we could do it. It was just (that) we weren’t trying hard enough. It was real inspiring. That was the extra motivation we needed.”
Crystal Lopez put the Tigers on the board with a tally early in the second half, taking a cross pass from Boyd and depositing her shot to the back of the net.
With two minutes left in the game, Boyd slammed home the game-winner on an assist from Smith to give Ontario the game.
All Ontario goalkeeper Meghan Schram needed was a lawn chair and some sunscreen, as she posted three saves.
Ontario (4-2 overall, 4-0 league) hosts Baker City at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Alameda Elementary School.
