Ontario—The Ontario girls soccer team protected its perfect record in the 4A Special District 7 standings with a 2-0 blanking of Riverside Saturday on a soggy field at Alameda Elementary School. The win moved the Tigers into first place by themselves while Riverside, Baker and Mac-Hi remain tied for second place.
Hailee Turner and Shawna McAvoy scored the goals for Ontario.
McAvoy broke the ice in the first half when Turner gave her the assist and McAvoy beat the Riverside goalie on the shot, and the Tigers led at intermission 1-0.
In the second half, Turner got her shot at a goal when Gracia Erelbach kicked an assist her way and Turner tickled the twine for the score.
Ontario goalkeeper Meghan Schram had four save and logged her second shutout of the season. Schram has only given up five goal in 2008, and four of those came against Vallivue in two separate games and one to Umatilla.
Ontario will battle to keep it first place standings in the district next Saturday when the travel to Mac-Hi for a showdown at noon.
