Ontario—The Tiger girls soccer team improved to 2-2 overall on the season, and 2-0 in the 4A Special District 7, with a 2-0 win over the visiting La Grande Tigers.
Kim Boyd stepped up and scored both goals, which both came in the second half. On the first offering, Boyd took an assist from Crista Strong and fired the ball past La Grande’s goal keeper for a 1-0 Ontario lead. Then on the second score, Boyd received the assist from Alexis Jagelski and found the back of the net.
The Ontario defense played solid against La Grande, allowing only five shots on goal. Ontario fired off eight shots on the La Grande goalie.
“In the first half, the game was matched evenly,” Ontario head coach Stacy Captain said. “But during halftime, my senior captains gave the team a little pep talk, and they came out in the second half and played a different game.”
Captain said it was the defense that played a great game for Ontario.
“We have an awesome defense,” Captain said. “We are fast.”
Ontario will hit the field again at 1 p.m. Saturday as they host Riverside.
Riverside comes to Ontario boasting a 2-1-1 overall mark and is 1-0-1 in district standings. Riverside had defeated Umatilla but ended its match against La Grande in a 0-0 tie.
The Pirates have scored 13 goals on the year and have given up 10, while Ontario has scored nine goals and given up five.
