Edgar C. Newall, 74, passed away conscious and aware Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, demonstrating his reliance on God to assist in every transition. Private family services will be held at a later date. Condolences to the family may be made at

In loving memory of Edgar C. Newall, who lived a life of passionate drive and vision. His interests ranged from music and art to international trade, gold mining and deep spiritual devotion and service to others through his practice of Christian Science. At 74 years old, he was a whiz at the computer, reading up on quantum theory, continuously learning and achieving.
Born in Newberg, on Nov. 21, 1933, to Evah and Edgar C. Newall Sr., the family lived in Newberg as evidenced by landmarks like Newall Road.
Newall received a degree in Economics from Washington State University. After, he then began his career in the Navy and was trained as an aviator. He was especially proud of being chosen to pilot the helicopter that retrieved astronaut John Glenn after splashdown in 1962.
Ed achieved the rank of commander, leaving the Navy in 1971 to pursue projects that expressed his talents as an independent entrepreneur. He traveled internationally, trading commodities, while working gold claims close to home in the hills outside of Baker. Ed was an avid miner, collaborating with his son, Scott Newall, sister, Gloria Brothers, and nephew, Ladd Brothers, to establish Western Consolidated Mines, Inc. Ed had been the sales manager for Carol Collection Agency, Payette, for the past eight years.
His service to others took many fascinating forms from commissioning early prototypes of equipment to flash freeze foods for distribution to people in need, designing the early credit card systems, to working in the prisons to offer spiritual mentorship and healing to inmates. He was an active member of the First Church of Christ Science in Baker, and his abilities as a practitioner were a benefit to many.
Ed’s deep and pervasive spiritual devotion guided his life and his passing; he was always affirming the joy in everything.
Edgar is survived by his son, Scott Newall, Seattle; daughter, Kim Newall, Vashon Island, Wash.; and dear friends, Frances Davis, Payette, and Karen Reiner, Richland.
