Gary was born in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 15, 1953, to Ivan E. and Maurine E. (Clark) Getman. He moved with his family during his grade school years to the Ontario area.
After high school, he started his first career in the United States Army. He spent the next 20 years traveling the world and proudly serving his country. After retirement from the Army, he went to work as a correctional officer at SRCI where he thoroughly enjoyed his job and the good people he worked with.
Gary was a very dedicated husband and father. He was most comfortable with his loved ones around him. Among his favorite activities were dancing with his wife, shooting with his boys and being around his horses. He was a very accomplished team roper and had a deep and special bond with his horse, Skeet. He was known and loved by many for his generosity, witty sense of humor, and ability to pull off the ultimate prank. Gary was very involved with his community, serving on the Payette County Rodeo Board for many years.
Gary’s granddaughter, Colbie, made him the proudest grandfather on Earth. He anxiously awaited the arrival of three more grandchildren (all on the way). He was also very proud to be called an uncle and was extremely close to his nieces and nephews.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mila; their four sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie and Erin, Jed and Lila, Chad and Carrie, Bodean and Alayna; mother, Maurine Maltsberger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Gerry Griffin and Kathy and Tom Bingham; along with his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy; father, Ivan; a brother-in-law and a nephew.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
