Ontario — The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office helped to uproot a marijuana grove after it was discovered by the Oregon State Police and members of the Baker County Narcotics Task Force during a routine drug air search Monday.
“They were flying around the Snake River, and there appeared to be a large marijuana grove on the Snake River,” Malheur County Undersheriff Brian Wolfe said.
The High Desert Task Force was then contacted. The task force conducted more flights over the area, situated near the intersection of Annex and Buckhorn Roads. Wolfe said a search warrant was executed on the property at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a helicopter positioned nearby to watch for people fleeing the property.
Wolfe said 1,603 plants were recovered.
“Good, tall, mature plants,” he said.
Wolfe said samples were taken from the plants before they were destroyed and buried with the help of the Malheur County Road Department.
Other agencies assisting in the bust were the United States Bureau of Land Management, Payette County Sheriff’s Office, Payette Police Department, Ontario Police Department and the Weiser Police Department.
“There were a lot of people involved in the investigation,” Wolfe said.
There have been no arrests in connection with the incident.
