By Argus Observer Sports Staff
Moses Lake, Wash. — One night after suffering a 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14 loss to the No. 3 ranked Community Colleges of Spokane, the No. 5 Treasure Valley Community College volleyball team rebounded with a three-game sweep over Big Bend Community College Wednesday in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges action in Moses Lake, Wash.
The Chukars enjoyed leads in every game and started on the right foot with a 25-22 score in the opener. TVCC won the second game 25-20 and sent the Vikings packing with a 27-25 decision in the third game.
Stephanie O’Connor and Tara O’Connor led at the net with nine and seven kills, respectively, and Casey Fitzgerald added 14 assists. Elisa Mooney chipped in 12 digs, and Stephanie O’Connor did damage from the service line with six aces.
“Spokane is one of the top teams in our league, so we knew we would have to play if we were going to win,” TVCC head coach Dennis Gill said. “Tonight (Wednesday) we were a little better. We were up in all three games and did it with good ball control. We had bigger hitters and blockers at the net, and that made the difference.”
In Tuesday’s match, Vanessa Gomez tallied 12 kills, and Stephanie O’Connor added 18 digs and 16 assists. Fitzgerald also dished up 16 assists, and Tara O’Connor added four blocks.
TVCC (14-2 overall) travels to No. 7 Walla Walla (4-1 overall) tonight. |
