Nyssa hosts Malheur cross country championships

Nyssa—The Bulldogs boys cross country team had eight runners place in the top 10 on their way to a huge victory over Ontario and Vale Tuesday in Nyssa at the Malheur County cross country championship.
The Nyssa boys finished the championship with a team score of 19 points for the win. Vale came in second with 56 points, and Ontario scored 68 points.
Nyssa’s junior harrier Brian Nelson took top individual honors with a race time of 17:02.32, which was four seconds ahead of Ontario senior Matt Rankin who placed second with a time of 17:06.16.
The Bulldogs took the next three placements with freshman Ryan Magg coming in third place with a time of 18:04.13, sophomore Jaimie Venegas placing fourth with a race time of 18:58.51 and senior Carter Spear placing fifth with a time of 19:12.08.
Vale had only on runner finish in the top 10 with Travis Delong coming in eighth place with a time of 19:52.89.
In the girls race, Vale took the gold with 28 points, Ontario came in second scoring 45 points and Nyssa placed third with 50 points.
Freshmen harrier Kassie Anthony, of Vale, won the individual title with a race time of 21:51.92, just edging out Ontario senior Melody Haidle who ran the race in 21:54.16.
Vale’s Michelle Kaaen placed third. The senior ran the race in 22:04.16. Fourth place went to Nyssa junior Amanda Bittenger who crossed the finish line with a time of 22:51.94.
