Plans off for $3 million remodel of Idaho guv’s place
BOISE (AP) — For now, a $3 million remodel of Idaho’s would-be governor’s mansion perched atop a giant north Boise lawn has been called off.
Instead, the state is spending $250,000 from roughly $475,000 in private donations to paint, remodel and buy furniture from R.C. Willey Home Furnishings so the place can be at least used for receptions and other events. Billionaire J.R. Simplot, who donated the 7,400-square-foot house to Idaho in 2004, died in May.
