Fruitland — The Corpus Christi Council of Catholic Women will hold a dedication of the rose garden at Corpus Christ Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, 700 N.W. Seventh St., west from U.S. Highway 95, Fruitland.
Intertwined with the history of the Catholic Church in the area is the history of the Memorial Fund. It began in 1968, started by the Catholic Women’s League of New Plymouth, when Art Myers, a prominent businessman, passed away.
Through the years, donations have increased and have been used to install several church projects, including the stone cross in the New Plymouth Cemetery and the rose garden at St. Aloysius Church in New Plymouth.
When the New Plymouth and Payette parishes joined at Corpus Christi in Fruitland, the idea of a new rose garden was discussed. It would be in memory of the deceased women of both parishes and their good work.
The women of the Corpus Christi Council of Catholic Women have now made this a reality.
The CCW Rose Garden consists of more than 45 rose bushes that fill the space with fragrance and memories of these precious women. Its design is circular and represents the two parishes coming together as one. Two small benches stand for the women of each parish, The Holy Family in Payette and St. Aloysius in New Plymouth.
The large crescent bench in the middle symbolizes their unity as the Corpus Christi Council of Catholic Women. The centerpiece statue of the Virgin Mary was a fitting donation from the Campo family in memory of their wife and mother, Agnes Campo.
All are invited to come and partake of this beautiful place and the fond memories that are and that are to come. Refreshments will be served at the dedication.
