As every day passes, the undefeated Treasure Valley Community College volleyball team is dropping kills and taking names.
California is now Chukarville, USA.
The Chukars defeated Napa Valley Wednesday, and swept past Yuba City Thursday to run their record to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
Against Napa Valley, TVCC dropped the opening game 25-21 and rebounded nicely with scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20 to take the match.
“The team we played today, they are really good. They won their league last year,” TVCC head coach Dennis Gill said of Napa Valley. “They (TVCC) have made some steps forward. We lost that first game, but we just came out slow. The second, third and fourth (games), we took control. That’s something we’re doing a lot better this year.”
Vanessa Gomez, Kayla Van Komen and Stephanie O’Connor had monster days with 11 kills apiece, and Casey Fitzgerald added 21 assists.
O’Connor added 19 assists and three service aces to her impressive stat line, and Gomez completed her double-double effort with 10 digs.
Sophomore standout and Vale High School graduate Elisa Mooney also chipped in a stellar performance with 16 digs.
Against Yuba City, the Chukars seized control from the opening gun and cruised the rest of the way to the 25-23, 25-21, 30-28 three-game sweep.
Stephanie O’Connor led the way with 14 kills, 16 assists and nine service aces, and Fitzgerald added 25 assists.
Gomez notched another double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while teammate Tara O’Connor tallied eight kills along with three blocks.
Hailey Curtis and Mooney made some noise on the hardwood with 11 digs apiece.
TVCC (8-0 overall) travels to Butte College in Oroville, Calif. for a double-dip against Butte (11 a.m. PDT) and Lassen College (1:30 p.m. PDT).
