He served in the Veterinary Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II for four years. He married Donna Mae Howard on Oct. 9, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple.
His great desire was to be on a dairy farm. So in 1952 with three small children, Lester, ShaRell and Debby, they started a new adventure in Vale, Ore. A few years later, another son, Jim, completed their family.
He was a high priest in the LDS Church and served in many positions.
Evan was a loyal Vale Viking fan until he could no longer attend games.
Evan had a close relationship with all his family and loved his grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna Nelson; two sons and two daughters, Lester Nelson (LaCree), Woods Cross, Utah, ShaRell Nelson, of Signal Hill, Calif., Debby Stubbs (Jeff), of Vale, and Jim Nelson (Lori), of Vale; a sister Ruth Ann Dart, Pasco, Wash.; two brothers, Ford Nelson, of Vale, and Clyde Nelson, Bountiful, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
