N.W. residents seek study on industrial
pollution
PORTLAND (AP) — Dozens of residents of northwest Oregon and southwestern Washington are asking for more study about the effect of industrial pollution on local children.
The request comes after three schoolmates all developed rare bone marrow diseases in the past year, more than would be expected from random chance. See story Page A5.

worry over proposed mine
ELK CITY (AP) — Some residents of a small mountain town in northern Idaho are worried a proposed gold mine could threaten not only their way of life, but their drinking water and environment.
The town, however, is still hurting after a sawmill went out of business. Some say the gold mine will bring new jobs to Buffalo Gulf, a sparsely populated town outside Elk City, Idaho.
On a ridge above Buffalo Gulf, the Elk City Mining Co. plans to dig about 200 feet deep so they can extract an estimated 100,000 ounces of gold.
Idaho woman faces
intimidation charge in rape case
OROFINO (AP) — A northern Idaho judge has found enough evidence to hold up charges against a 46-year-old woman who police say intimidated a witness in a rape case.
Theresa Graber has been charged with a felony count of witness intimidation in connection with the rape charges against her 23-year-old son.
Authorities have charged Patrick Graber with felony counts of statutory rape and lewd and lascivious conduct with an unidentified minor girl.
S. Idaho man found on temple roof
REXBURG (AP) — A 35-year-old southeastern Idaho man was taken into policy custody for a mental evaluation after he was found disoriented on a temple roof of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Rexburg police say the Ammon man was talking incoherently when they found him on the temple roof Thursday.
