The Backroads: Too many shows, not enough ...

What a week for music. Blackwood Legacy and the Young Continentals kicked things off Sunday, followed by Ozark Mountain Music Tuesday and the O-zone Summer Jam 3 Saturday, just on our side of the Treasure Valley.
In the Boise area, ZZ Top, Tailgate 2008 and the Warped Tour all wowed audiences, or at least I would imagine they did.
But there’s the problem: I don’t actually know.
I heard ZZ Top was coming when I took over the Out and About page on Thursdays, and I thought, “Wow, I’d better go. How many more chances will I really have?â€
I planned on going all summer, but as the day drew nearer, I realized I couldn’t afford go to ZZ Top Tuesday and go watch Pepper and Slightly Stoopid at the Tailgate 2008 bash the next day.
I gave up on the bearded legends, if only for financial reasons and not wanting to reschedule guitar lessons, and decided to try to carpool to see Pepper. The carpooling would have cut down on a significant portion of the expense, and I knew a few people who were thinking about going.
That didn’t work out either. I ended up working until the show was slated to begin because of my own oversight and lack of planning.
I didn’t even know about the Warped Tour until I talked with a previous bandmate of mine last Sunday. (What kind of a music editor am I?) I never really planned on going to that one, but I would have liked to have seen Reel Big Fish and the Vandals again. I’ve seen them both multiple times and never went home dissatisfied.
I’m not very satisfied now, however. With all the good, live music around, the best thing I heard was an old Beatles record (which, granted, is probably the next best thing to live music).
So, I’m hoping somebody can help me out. I would love to hear how these shows were. If you were there, please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail. If you know somebody who went, let them know I want a report.
I’m really curious about ZZ Top. I think I may have missed the boat, and I kind of doubt they are coming back to port. If you were there, help this scurvy-ridden music junkie out. Give me some vitamin Z.
