Blumenherst, Na lead qualifiers at U.S. Amateur

EUGENE (AP) — Australia’s Stephanie Na and Duke standout Amanda Blumenherst shared medalists honors Tuesday after two days of stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Eugene Country Club.

Na and Blumenherst advanced as top seeds for match play, which begins Wednesday after a playoff between 10 golfers to determine the final six spots.

Na shot a 1-under-par 71 in the second round to finish with a 4-under 140 total. She had her only bogey on her first hole, the par-4 No. 10, before scoring birdies on No. 13 and No. 16. She recorded pars on each of her last 10 holes.

After tying the championship record with a first-round 66 on Monday, Blumenherst shot a 2-over 74 in the second round. The three-time NCAA player of the year had five birdies overall, but was slowed by consecutive double-bogeys on holes 10 and 11.

Kira Meixner of Canada shot 141 to place third. Canada’s Stephanie Sherlock and Whitney Neuhauser of Barboursville, Va., tied for fourth at 142.

The cut was set at 8-over 152, with 64 players advancing to match play.
