Debbie Johanson
May 16, 1949 - Aug. 1, 2008
Ontario
Debbie Johanson passed away on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at the age of 59 from brain cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1705 N.W. Fourth Ave., Ontario. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario and an hour before the services on Wednesday at the church.
Debbie was born in East Ely, Nev., on May 16, 1949, to Bill and Betty Lage. She was raised in a mining family and saw Nevada the hard way, living her childhood in East Ely, Cherry Creek, Las Vegas, Elko (twice), Lovelock, Winnemucca and Lovelock, and graduated from Lovelock High School in 1967. She also graduated from beauty school in 1977.
She loved being a wife and mother and considered it to be the most noble and rewarding profession in the world. Her concern and service for others was only superseded by love for her children. She had three children of her own and through two marriages inherited six hungry stepchildren yearning for a mother and in need of a hug. She earned the title of mother and over the years she earned everyone’s love.
She loved the different seasons of the year, but especially the month of July. She would hold her head up straight when she saw the flag of the United States, a tear would come to her eye when she heard the Battle Hymn of the Republic and she enjoyed a soft, peaceful smile when she would smell her favorite flower, lily of the valley.
The yard sale community of the Treasure Valley will miss her generous and frequent support, but her children who ultimately inherited those treasures, will not. A re-yard sale will eventually be held in her honor and the area will be flooded with antiques and trinkets that once belonged to others.
Debbie is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry.
She is survived by her parents, Bill and Betty Lage, Winnemucca, Nev.; and children, stepchildren and children-in-law, all of who consider her and called her mother, Laura and Brad Holt, Fruitland, Donna and Mike Johnson, Vancouver, Wash., Craig and Lori Johanson, Highland, Utah, Yvette and Mike Allen, Payette, Stacie Johanson, Provo, Utah, Darci Johanson, Boise, Dee and Dinah Epps, Wendover, Nev., Tammy and Mark Lovelace, Colinga, Calif., and Curtis Epps (deceased); brothers, Rob and Fritche Lage, Winnemucca, John Lage, Boise; sister, Marta Lage, Winnemucca; and 19 grandchildren.
