Ontario — The Ontario Police Department Thursday made another arrest in connection to a car-burning case in late June.
OPD arrested Tyler Anders, 19, on two counts of arson in the first degree, two counts of arson in the second degree and two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Anders was driving a Saturn SUV with a suspended license when police made the traffic stop on Southwest Fourth Avenue near Alameda.
All of the charges are felonies. Anders was also charged with two counts of recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor.
Last weekend OPD arrested an Ontario youth who they assert was also connected to the car-burning case. The 16-year-old male was arrested on a Malheur County warrant for two charges of arson in the second degree and two charges of unauthorized use a of vehicle.
The car-burning probe by area law enforcement agencies began when a 1984 Ford Bronco was discovered on Oregon Highway 201 near Stanton Boulevard north of Ontario in June.
“We later learned the vehicle had been stolen out of Cambridge, Idaho,” Malheur County Undersheriff Brian Wolfe said June 30. “Whoever had taken it had set it on fire when they were done with it.”
A GMC van, which belonged to Hells Canyon Electric in Weiser, was also set ablaze in the 800 block of North Oregon Street in Ontario.
