Park City, Utah—The Ontario Field of Dreams softball team finished pool play Wednesday with two more wins — well, one win and one tie, but at the Triple Crown World Series, a tie counts as a win.

The team ended up as the No. 2 seed from its pool play and will advance to the field of 12 in double elimination bracket play to determine the Triple Crown World Seires champion for the 16U B tournament.

In the first game on Wednesday, the Field of Dreams took on a familiar team in the Idaho Diamond Bandits of Caldwell. These two teams played each other a few times during the regular season with the two teams trading victories.

Despite the game ending in a 1-1 tie, Feild of Dreams coach David Hopper was thrilled with the way his team was playing.

“It is exciting to watch these girls play,” Hopper said. “ We came up here kind of gun shy, but we are playing some very good ball.”

Melissa Blackwell of Payette started the game for the Field of Dreams and she pitched a gem, giving up one run on four hits and striking out six.

In the second game of the day for the Field of Dreams against the Colorado Stars, Hopper’s team wasted no time as they crushed the Stars 15-3.

The Stars came out swinging, racking up five hits and scoring all three of their runs in the first two innings of play against Field of Dreams pitcher Tori Brown.

Relief pitcher Mackenzie Srack held the Stars in check and only allowed three more hits in the remainder of the game.

“It is all heart out there. They are here to play softball,” Hopper said. “We are hitting and playing great defense.”

The Field of Dreams will take on the King City Havoc of California in their first game today.

With a win they will get a rematch against the No. 1 seed from their pool the Scottsdale Heat, a team that beat them 5-4 in the first game of the tournament with the winning run coming in the bottom of the seventh in a 4-4 tie with two outs in the inning.
