Ontario—Seventeen teams begin the day with 0-0 records as the American Legion Area B district tournament begins in Nampa at both Rodeo Park and Columbia High School.
The Treasure Valley ‘A’ Stars enter the tournament as the three seed from the west and will begin play today at 1 p.m. against the Boise Seminoles.
Caldwell and Mountain Home will get the tournament started at Rodeo Park at 10 a.m., while over at Columbia High School it will be Bishop Kelly and Centennial battling at 9 a.m.
The Stars ended the regular season winning two of their three final games to finish the regular season with a 29-11 record.
Treasure Valley head coach Russ Wright said his team is ready for the competition.
“There are some good teams from the east, and we finished third here in the west,” Wright said. “It should be a good tournament.”
Wright likes where his team is at heading into the tournament and feels if they stay focused on what they have to do they have a good chance at doing very well.
The Stars are bracketed with Mountian View, the top seed from the west, Columbia and the Boise Seminoles.
If the Stars advance with a win today, they will still be looking at a tough matchup against the winner of Mountain View and Columbia.
The other teams in the upper portion of the bracket include Mountain Home, the No. 1 seed from the east, Caldwell, the Boise Senators and Nampa.
Caldwell head coach Dennis Silvey said his team will need to play error free baseball and will have to be aggressive with the bats if they want to advance through the winners side of the bracket.
The lower portion of the bracket has Bishop Kelly playing Centennial, followed by Eagle and the Boise Capitols at noon. Kuna and Meridian will battle at 3 p.m., and the Boise Gems will take on Vallivue at 4 p.m. at Rodeo Park. The tournament will run all week with the championship game being played at 4 p.m. on July 28 at Rodeo Park.
