Fishing report:

Oregon fishing report

BROWNLEE RESERVOIR: Crappie fishing is very good. Fish are not large (5-8 inches) but there are a lot of them. Jigs of all colors have been working well. Bass fishing has been good. Catfish and perch are being caught in the Powder River Arm with worms and cut-bait. Fish for catfish in 2 feet of water with bobbers. Some trout are being caught in the river mouths.

OXBOW RESERVOIR: Crappie are post spawn and the larger fish have moved into 30-35 feet of water.  Smaller crappie can be caught form shore. Bass, perch and catfish are all biting well. Bass can now be taken but have a size slot limit. See regulations for more information.

HELLS CANYON RESERVOIR: Very good angling for crappie, bass, perch and catfish. Crappie are running 10-12 inches and can be found in deep water with greens or red sparkle jigs. Crappie are generally in back eddies, and in shaded areas in the afternoon

SNAKE RIVER below HELLS CANYON RESERVOIR: The Snake River from Dug Bar boat ramp upstream to the deadline below Hell’s Canyon Dam closed for salmon fishing June 22.Trout and smallmouth bass fishing are good.

SNAKE RIVER (Above Brownlee Reservoir): Flows near Nyssa have ranged from 5,200 to 6,400 cfs from July2 through July7. Flows near Weiser have ranged from 9,300 cfs to 10,000 cfs from July 2 through July 7. Angling is good for 18 to 28 inch catfish. Smallmouth bass angling is fair.

Idaho Fishing report

Boise River: Folks are seeing some nice natural fish as well as planted rainbow. Water levels have stabilized and summer conditions have finally taken over.

South Fork of the Boise River Anderson Ranch Dam downstream to Neal Bridge: The South Fork of the Boise below Andersen Ranch dam has seen some rise in flow. Several reports of happy anglers have surfaced already. A few good hatches have come off already with promise of more coming.

C.J. Strike Reservoir: Idaho Power continues construction work on some of its facilities at the reservoir; work that will go on for at least a year in some cases. Anglers will find temporary closures in several areas as work proceeds, so have a little patience. After the work is finished, the area should be an even better place.

Yellow Perch - Fishing for yellow perch is fair. Use small pieces of cut bait and fish from the dam near the turbine inlets. The perch have been running about 11 inches.

Smallmouth bass – Fishing is good along rocky shoreline areas or gradual sloping banks with small gravel. Use plastic baits (tubes, grubs, etc.) or crankbaits in dark colors. Topwater plugs are causing some excitement.

Rainbows – Without a doubt, some of the best trout fishing for a long time. The hotspots seem to be below the dam near the turbine outlets and from the dam on the lake side near the turbine inlets - just upstream from the cable barrier. Most folks can catch a limit in less than an hour. Most fish measured recently were between 13 and17 inches. Worms fished on the bottom seem to be the ticket. A few anglers using only spinners have caught their limit easily.

Crappie – The action this spring that saw folks sacking up crappie has run its course but folks are still making some good, if sporadic, hauls.

Catfish - The Bruneau Arm is good on the eastern end. Fish the flats in 4-5 feet of water using cut bait or something stinky.

Please remember: a two-pole validation is $43.25 cheaper than a citation.

Snake River:

Channel catfish – From Swan Falls to Brownlee, this is the time of the year to find a big old channel cat in the Snake. It has been good and better than good on some recent occasions. Cut bait and worms are both catching fish. Expect a lot of weeds in the river.

Smallmouth bass – Some nice bass are being caught below CJ. Use the same lures and techniques as mentioned above.

Sturgeon – Running a close second to the rainbow fishing.

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Lucky Peak has been good for kokanee, a fishery that should last about another month.
