Merle was born June 17, 1924, in Eagle, Idaho, to Ernest J. Green and Martha Snell Green. He graduated from Eagle High School with the class of 1942. Merle married Margaret Angeline Hedges Feb. 12, 1950, in Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church, Parma. He worked in jewelry stores in Boise and Gooding and moved to Parma in 1947. He and his devoted, caring wife worked alongside one another for many years to support a family and serve a community, retiring in 1985. His favorite pastime was getting to go to the “hills” in the motor home with his family. He also enjoyed the trips traveling with fellow RV-ers and friends. Those who have visited their home likely remember their dedicated service and the harmonious sound of ticking clocks and chiming bells in their home. Merle was a man of many talents, excelling as a watch maker and jeweler and in woodworking, building all the show cases in the jewelry store.
Merle was also a devout member of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he leaves behind many cherished friends. His daughters, grandchildren and friends will surely miss his smile, humor, feistiness and thoughtfulness. Merle was also a charter member of the Parma Lions Club.
Merle is survived by his caring family, who were very special to him, including his wife of 58 years, Angie; children, Connie Holsclaw, Cheryl Neace (Jimmie) and Merri Jo Freese (Ken); seven grandchildren, Kirsten (Greg) Murray, Jonathan Winther, Chris Holsclaw, Mike Freese, Mark Freese, Derick Richter and Brandon Richter; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Allen; his parents; and a brother, Bernerd.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church, P.O. Box 789, Parma, ID 83660; Scholarship Program, “SOS,” P.O. Box 60, Parma, ID 83660; or Legacy Hospice, 680 S. Progress Ave., Suite 2A, Meridian, ID 83642.
