Man may be ‘person of interest’ in death

Jordan Valley — A man arrested on a probation violation out of Union County by the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office is also now a person of interest in the death of a Vale man after he was assaulted outside of a Jordan Valley tavern.

Justin E. Moore, 34, La Grande, was arrested Sunday afternoon during a routine traffic stop. He was taken into custody on a Union County probation violation, Malheur County Sheriff Andy Bentz said. Bentz said Moore is a “subject of interest” in the ongoing investigation of the death of John Levanger, 40.

Levanger was found injured outside of the Jordan Valley Cafe and Bar at 1:59 a.m. Saturday.

He was transported to Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, where he died Wednesday.

" Fortunately, it appears the case has been taken by the Oregon State Police. Therefore, it should be handled with a degree of professionalism that seems to be beyond MCSO. "
