BOISE (AP) — A new report shows violent crimes across Idaho in 2007 increased slightly compared to the year before, including homicides and aggravated assaults.
But the annual Idaho State Police ‘‘Crime in Idaho’’ report shows declines in property crimes and a slight drop in drug and narcotics violations last year compared to 2006.
Statistics compiled by the agency show Idaho had 49 murders last year, up from 31 in 2006, with most of the homicides occurring in the southwest corner of the state.
Overall, violent crime was up less than 1 percent statewide. The number of aggravated assaults increased 2.3 percent. Those crimes account for more than 75 percent of violent crimes. In the property crimes category, the report shows 2007 robberies down nearly 21 percent and drug violations down less than 1 percent compared to 2006.
