ROME — A lightning-caused fire, which was started Monday afternoon in southern Malheur County, quickly grew to more than 30,000 acres south of Rome, with containment not expected until Wednesday evening.
Mark Wilkening, Vale Bureau of Land Management, said the fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. “It was started by lightning and pushed by wind,” he said.
