WEISER  - A Fruitland man was killed Friday evening in a boating accident on the Snake River near Weiser when his boat hit a steel cable by the bridge between Weiser and Annex.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Aaron T. Grant, 36, and two friends had been traveling west in an 18-foot jet boat when the craft hit a steel cable that is stretched across the river for the construction of the new bridge. Grant died at the scene, Washington County Sheriff Marv Williams said. The incident was called into Washington County dispatch at 7:34 p.m. There was no other information available on the other two people in the boat.

The bridge construction area is marked as a hazard, Williams said and the accident remains under investigation.
