Loren Kelly Schroeder, widely known in the film industry as one of the best and certainly most popular first assistant directors, died May 26, 2008, at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., of heart failure. He was 51 years old.
Kelly Schroeder’s career, spanning 28 years, consisted of 21 feature films, including “Graffiti Bridge” and the Sundance Award winning “Pow Wow Highway,” more than 300 commercials and 100 music videos.
Kelly was a member of the Directors Guild of America since 1988. Many of the best assistant directors working in Hollywood today were trained by Kelly Schroeder.
Kelly was born in Medford, Ore., Aug. 31, 1956. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and spending time on the beaches of California and in the mountains of McCall, Idaho.
Kelly is survived by his two sons, Sam and Will Schroeder.
He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Della Schroeder, Payette; three brothers, Michael Schroeder (Sharon), Los Angeles, Steve Schroeder, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Barry Schroeder, Meridian; four sisters, Teresa Gustin (Gary), Middleton, Lillian Burn, Cape Corral, Fla., Tricia Rodgers (Justin), Buckeye, Ariz., and Sarah Schroeder, Eagle; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kelly Schroeder will be laid to rest in his hometown of Payette, where he’s still regarded as a star high school basketball player. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 14 at Rosedale Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family and the online guestbook signed at www.Haren-Wood.com
Filmmakers, friends and family will be celebrating his life with a sunset memorial gathering at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the water’s edge on the Pacific Ocean at the end of Rose Street in Venice, Calif.
