Fruitland’s U-14 softball keeps undefeated record intact
Cox wins fourth straight decision

Vale—Jordan Robinson went 3-for-3, and Carlene Campo added two hits and two runs scored to lead the Fruitland U-14 softball team to a 16-6 win over Vale in Payette County Recreation League softball action Thursday in Vale.
As a team, Fruitland rattled off six hits and received 13 free passes to spearhead the offensive charge.
Through the first three innings, both teams battled back and forth.
Fruitland kicked things off with six runs in the top of the first inning, and Vale answered with two runs in the bottom half. In the second, Fruitland scored three runs, and Vale added a run to make the score 9-3 after two frames.
In the third, Fruitland was kept off the board, and Vale crept back into the contest with three runs to draw to within three, at 9-6.
Fruitland dropped the hammer in the top of the fourth with seven runs to walk away with a decisive 16-6 win.
Taylor Cox struck out 10, walked three and allowed six hits to run her record to 4-0 on the year.
Nikki Hurrle, Jordan Robinson and Taylor Cox all notched RBIs, and eight different Fruitland players crossed the plate.
Katie Cox reached base all three times at bat and scored three runs, and Makenzie Miller was issued three free passes and scored three runs.
“They did really well,” Fruitland coach Jeff Ward said. “They did much better with the bats. My catcher (Miller) did a really good job defensively. I have to give props to my catcher.”
Fruitland (4-0) next takes on Ontario Monday at Treasure Valley Community College.
