Ontario tracksters take third at GOL district meet

Ontario—Ontario’s Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili stood tall when it counted most.
Dzhidzhiyeshvili chalked up four individual golds to lead the Lady Tiger tracksters to a third place finish at the Greater Oregon league District track meet.
The senior picked up top honors in the shotput with a distance of 37-feet-4 inches, kept the run going with a top distance of 118-11 in the discus, javelin (112-1) and flew to gold in the long jump at (15-9 1/2).
Baker (97 points) chalked up the district title and La Grande (68) wound up in second place. Dzhidzhiyeshvili’s heroics garnered Ontario a third place finish with 67 points.
Denali Cox earned top honors in the 100-meters with a time of 13.17 seconds and wound up in second place in the 200, stopping the clock at 27.05.
Melody Haidle also qualified for state competition with a second in the 1500-meters with a time of 5:13.35 minutes.
Matt Rankin and Matt Anthony were the leaders of the pack for the Tigers, taking home two top finishes to lead the Ontario boys to a second place finish with 65 points.
Rankin was first in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:15.93 and he also added a sterling effort in the 3000, stopping the clock with a time 9:18.23.
Anthony kicked his game into overdrive with a top time in the 100-meters at 11.37 and the sophomore added a 22.87 in the 200.
Also winning district titles for the Tigers were Robert Keyes, who opened eyes in the long jump with a distance of 20-3.75 and Tad Anzaldua with a triple jump distance of 41-1.25.
Jordan Martinez qualified for state competition in the discus with a distance of 134-11, and Nick Vasquez earned top billing in the shotput with a toss of 45-4.
The 4x100 relay team of Roger Garza, Jordan Lang, Anzaldua and Keyes turned a second place and state qualifying time of 45.29 to round out the Tiger qualifiers.
State competition starts Thursday in Eugene.
