Parma sweeps tennis titles: Vale’s comes up short in two tennis championships

Caldwell - Parma is King of the tennis world. Well in Idaho anyway. Both the Parma boys and Parma girls brought home championship this weekend. The boys posted a team score of 58, while the Lady Panthers scored 57.
On the boys side, Community school took second with 35 points, followed by Sugar-Salem with 26 points and Weiser placed foruth with 18 points.
In the girls competition, Community School also took second with 57 points, Weiser placed third with 25 points and Clark Fork was fourth with 12 points.
Parma’s Bryant Timmons retained his 2007 title with a win over Weiser’s Grayson Duran, 6-3, 6-2. Kali Roche follewed suit with her title defense over Community School’s Courtney Hamilton, 6-3, 6-4.
Parma’s A. Nielson and T. Timmons rounded out the championship titles with the mixed doubles title, defeating teammates A. Rohrbacher and M. Loya 6-3, 6-4.

The Vale Viking tennis team had two chances at bring home championships with Anna Aronsson in the girls singles match and Russ Seals and Matt Robertson in the boys doubles match.
For Aronsson, she began the tournament at the No. 2 seed and in her first two matches had no problem with her competition. In Aronsson first match against Catlin Gabel’s Rivfika, Aronsson won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In her second match, she vollied with Junction City’s Kristin Wiley, and again won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. This win moved Aronsson into the championship match against Valley Cathholic’s Spohie Engelardt.
Aronsson struggled against the evenutal champ, losing two sets by the score of 6-1, 6-1.
The Vale boys doubles team of Seals and Robertson entered the tournament at three seeds, and they too advanced to the championship. Their road was a little more difficult as they faced some tough competition.
In their first match, against Estacada’s Gama Olivares and L. Ritzenhofen, the Vale netters won 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinal round, Seals and Robertson took on La Salle’s Cam Bond and Tahir Mahmood and defeated them 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals where OES doubles team of Trevor Apple and Alex Tillian awatied them. Seals and Robertson defeated their opponent 6-2, 7-6 (5) and earned the rigght to compete in the championship match against OES’s Jason Stack and Ryan Nedrow. But the championship run ended for the Vale due as they lost 6-2, 6-2.
Vale’s Bryce Marvin lost his first match of the tournament to Catlin Gabel’s Rohan Borker 6-0, 6-0, and was knocked into the consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket, Marvin won his first match 8-3 against Burns netter Tyler Fenton, but then lost to Ismael Martinez of Central 9-7.
Ontario girl doubles team of Chris Babij and Taralynn Gluch won their first match of the tournament against Stanfield’s Mariah McQuoun and Jessie Carillo, 6-1, 6-0, but then lost in the quarterfinals to OES’s Libby Morrison and Laura Tolosa, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-2. |
