Spring Fair set for Fruitland Saturday

FRUITLAND — The annual Fruitland Spring Fair will take place Saturday, but those who attend the event will see some changes this year.

Normally, the Spring Fair, including the Fruitland Lions Club annual chicken barbecue and the Fruitland Elementary School singing program, is held outside the  Fruitland Elementary School. There is no change to that schedule, but the location is now different.

With the inclusion of the newest school in the Fruitland School District, the elementary school is now situated on South Pennsylvania Avenue, just south of Fruitland Middle School.

The Lions Club will hold its chicken barbecue between the two schools from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual parade will take place at 2 p.m. and will follow its traditional route on Southwest Third Street traveling east to west from Minnesota Avenue to Colorado Avenue.

Parents of grade school students participating in the parade may pick their children up at the Fruitland Community Park instead of returning to the elementary school.

The FFA and 4-H judging will take place between the middle school and elementary school. Pig and sheep weigh-ins will take place from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 9 a.m.

The Fruitland Elementary School and Fruitland Intermediate School students will begin their singing program at 11:15 a.m. with the third- grade classes. The first- grade classes will follow at 11:30 a.m., followed by pre-first grade at 11:45 a.m.

The second-graders will take the stage at noon, followed by the morning and afternoon kindergarten classes at 12:15 p.m. The fourth-graders, fifth- graders and sixth-graders will each perform at 12:30 p.m., 12:50 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. New to the Fruitland Spring Fair this year, but not new to the Fruitland community, will be the annual Fruitland Fire Department/Bar None Rodeo Bull Riding Burnout. The sixth-annual event is a fundraiser for the Fruitland Fire Department’s burn-out fund, which help families who are struck by a devastating fire. This year’s event will take place just west of the old apple cider cannery at Southwest Seventh Street and U.S. Highway 95. The rodeo will begin at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 3 p.m. Rodeo stock is furnished by Bar None Rodeo. Admission for the event is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12, and children under 6 are admitted free.
