Thomas Joseph Jayo ‘Tommy’
Oct. 10, 1941 - April 30, 2008



Boardman, Ore. - Thomas Joseph “Tommy” Jayo was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Ontario, Ore., to parents, Francisco Xavier “Frank” and Anna (Eiguren) Jayo. He died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his home in Boardman, Ore., at the age of 66.

Tom grew up in Nyssa, Ore., and graduated from high school there. He attended Boise Junior College. On Jan. 9, 1961, he married Laura Moncur in Nyssa. They shared three beautiful children, Annie, Angie and Thomas Joseph “Joey.” Tom and Laura later divorced. Tom spent his life working hard as a farmer. He enjoyed his friends in Nyssa and Hermiston, but he loved big game hunting in Alaska and elk hunting in Oregon. Tom enjoyed his first granddaughter’s wedding in August 2007 by celebrating with sisters, children and grandchildren.

Tom is survived by daughters, Annie and her husband, Michael Johnson, West Linn, Ore., Angie Jayo, Seattle, Wash.; and son, Joey and his wife, Julie Jayo, Baker City, Ore.; sisters, Sylvia Jayo Coleman, Stayton, Ore., and Irene Jayo Eaton, Boise, Idaho; ex-wife, Laura Jayo, Baker City, Ore.; four grandchildren, Anna “Cami” (Johnson), Ogden, Talon Jayo, Deidra Johnson and Tanna Jayo.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Jayo.

Recitation of the Rosary was held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston, Ore. A time for sharing for family and friends followed the Rosary. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Nyssa, Ore. Inurnment of cremains will follow at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery(formerly Nyssa Cemetery) in Nyssa, Ore.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate Inc., 1200 N.W. Naito Parkway, Suite 220, Portland, OR 97209.

Burns Mortuary, of Hermiston, Ore., is in care of the Hermiston arrangements, and Lienkaemper Chapel, of Nyssa, is in care of arrangements in Nyssa.
