Fruitland—It was not a win nor a loss for the Fruitland Grizzlies tennis team Monday in Fruitland against Baker — rather a 6-6 tie.
Fruitland picked up only one win in the singles competition and that was by default, but in the doubles competition, the Griz won five of six matches.
The tie put Fruitland at 3-3-1 on the year. The Griz will be tested today as Parma visits Fruitland.
“Parma will be a challenge,” Fruitland head coach Frank Johnson said. “This is going to be a tough match.”
Johnson said he is moving players around, trying to find that right fit, but he said as a team, they are playing well.
“Our boys and girls doubles teams are strong, and we are playing some young athletes in the singles,” Johnson said. “If we can get our mixed doubles going, we will be looking good.”
Despite the mid-season changes Johnson is making on the team, he feels much of the team qualify for the state tournament.
“We have a lot of seniors and a lot of good athletes and they all compete very hard,” Johnson said.
