Ontario - The Snake River Correctional Institution was inching closer to normal operations Friday after an inmate shooting April 6.
SRCI officials still have not released information on the injuries of an inmate who was shot by a corrections officer following a fight in a recreation yard.
However, the inmate, along with three other inmates who sustained injuries in the disturbance, is back at the facility, which will expand more operations this week.
“Some areas are in modified operations,” SRCI Public Information Officer Amber Campbell said. “Some of our programs and activities are not being held right now.”
Those programs, which include parenting classes and work programs, are slated to begin again soon.
“Starting next week, we’re going to try to open the education classes and education programs,” Campbell said Friday.
Though the classes will begin again Monday, they will not run on a full schedule.
Another, at least temporary, change is how the recreation yard is operated. The yard, which was the site of the April 6 disturbance, is now serving inmates in smaller groups.
“There is a block of time in the morning, a block of time in the afternoon and a block of time in the evening,” she said.
Although the groups in the yard are smaller, Campbell said she doesn’t feel it will remain that way.
“We’ll assess it as time goes on,” she said.
Though visiting was cancelled after the incident, it has since resumed.
