SALEM (AP) — Authorities evacuated the Marion County Courthouse for more than an hour Friday after a bomb threat was phoned to 9-1-1.
The caller reportedly told a dispatcher at about 1 p.m. that a bomb would detonate in 20 minutes. No bomb went off and no explosives were found.
Investigators learned the call originated from the Salem transit mall. Salem Police Officer Chad Basaraba inspected surveillance video and described the suspect.
A man matching the description was later found acting suspiciously a block from the courthouse and was arrested.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as 40-year-old Jiy Travis Williams of Willamina. He has been charged with misuse of 9-1-1, disorderly conduct, initiating a false report, recklessly endangering another person and parole violation.
