Aronson named to top TVCC slot
Longtime resident will fill athletic director position

ONTARIO  - A familiar face will be at the helm of Treasure Valley Community College athletics after college officials announced last week that Ed Aronson, who had been both an athlete and a coach at the institution, will become director of athletics beginning July 1.

Aronson will take over for Rick Baumann, who has held the position on an interim basis since September. Baumann, who is the head baseball coach, will resume his coaching and fundraising duties full time.

Aronson played baseball at TVCC from 1975 to 1977, and then went on to play ball at Linfield College, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Boise State University.

He was TVCC’s assistant softball coach from 2000 to 2002 and also has more than 20 years experience as a collegiate basketball official, and during 10 of those years he could be seen officiating games at TVCC, he said. Aronson is now employed by the City of Ontario as its human resources director, but he has also worked as a planning technician for the city, and for most of his career he was general manager of Cable One and Chambers Cable, where he held a number of leadership positions.

“I am extremely ecstatic to get back into athletics and especially here at Treasure Valley.” Aronson said. “I’ve been in Ontario for the past 36 years. I couldn’t be happier about this opportunity. This is where I want to finish my career. I have a 10- to 12-year plan.”

Aronson said becoming the TVCC athletic director filled a desire to get back into athletics.

“I missed being involved,” he said. “I was interested three years ago (when the position came open). I’ve been interested ever since.”

The position, he said, also gives him an opportunity to get involved in the community.

Besides the competition, Aronson said he was attracted by the quality of the athletes and the character of the coaches — “the whole scene.”

As a player, Aronson competed in the Scenic West Conference — “I liked that level of competition” — but said the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges is a good fit for TVCC.

“I think it is a good conference,” he said.

One of the benefits is the amount of scholarship money for athletes is the same for member colleges, he said.

“It puts us on a more level playing field,” he said.

It is harder to recruit to a rural area, versus a metro college, he said.

“It is a tougher draw to Ontario over larger cities. It can be done.” he said. “I hope to be able to help coaches get that done. We have a good staff right now.”

TVCC President Jim Sorensen said the college was pleased to welcome Aronson to the college.

“We are excited to welcome Ed Aronson back to TVCC in this new position and look forward to his insight and leadership,” Sorensen said in a statement.

Aronson’s management experience, coupled with his athletics knowledge, made him the top candidate for the job, Sorensen said.

Four people were interviewed for the position.

" We have a right to "RAG ON", being that the crowd of recently elected City leaders made promises that are not being full-filled. This article is sort of a stepping stone to the ears of Council members. Can't keep a staff, not standing up for for upper management that did a lot of good here and took lots of unnecessary heat and slams to their good professionalisms doing their best for the community, Ed included. Where are the answers/solutions promised to the voters besides a box of donuts. We all wish Ed the best, but we all need to voice our concerns regardless of the amusement that might be perceived by those who find others thoughts not similar to theirs. Keep them coming folks keep the Council honest. It is a shame that they did not stand up for the good things that the previous Mayor, City Manager, Public Works Director and others did. Again where are the solutions that the current Mayor promised, all it is is the same old same old, give all the problems to a committee to find an answer, thought his group had all the answers please put them in writing, once they were posted to get votes. It has been over one year any changes for the good yet? What ever the article is lets get everyones thoughts its the right we have as Citizens, free speech let it roll maybe that will solve some problems. So "Rag" on folks. "

" Very well put Frank and I agree with your 100%. I do have one question and I hope you will anseer it for all of the public to see. Do you think the cities elected leaders are taking the city in the right direction, is the city beter off now or was it better before they took office? I know a lot of people at the city are afraid to say anything negative because they fear personal attacks by the mayor and council. "

" Congratulations Ed,
I'm happy to hear that you're moving up to where you've wanted to be. I'm sure you will do as good a job there as you have done for us here at the city. Thank You. It's been a lot of years since you and Joe were helping out at the Firestone store and I'm kinda surprised that you have chosen to stay in Ontario. I think you could have gone anywhere.
I do think it's pretty amusing that so many individuals can take a "do good", positive article like this and use it to stand on to get on their own soap box in order to rag on others.
I wish you all the best in your new endeavor. See you around.
"

" Congratulations Ed, I always thought you were wasting your talents working for the City. It appeared that before Duminick and his crew showed up the City was putting together a really talented management team, I guess Buminick fixed that didn’t he. It appears our elected leaders are just shuffling the chairs on the titanic. "

" Oh btw, the remaining employees in City Hall are by no means duds. They are actually great people and have chosen to ride the storm out. There is an opening for a Human resource director. How bout it Joe, you people person you!? Step up to the plate if you think you are so good at managing a workforce! Free donuts for everyone! No wait just say no to Joe! "

" Congratulations Ed! Good to hear you are going to be doing what you love to do! Everyone should be so lucky.
As to "yippee employee" Get a clue. you are entitled to your low opinion, but leave our secretary out of this. Jill is a DAMN good secretary, and treats us here at the fire dept like her own family. If you have a problem with her then come down here and I will discuss it with you in person, but I doubt that you have the guts to do it! Jill all of here at the fire dept will miss you very much. Macie will miss you too! "

Larry wrote on Apr 10, 2008 11:16 AM:

" The good people have certainly moved on. Any City employee that thinks this exodus has benefited the community certainly needs to get over "City Hall" and what they think were overpaid and good ol boy employees and start concerning themselves with their own duties and the community they serve. This is an example of the division Joe has created within. Of course box of donuts goes a LONG ways from what I hear.

On a related note, I would like to welcome the new City Hall employees who have come on board

And to Ed...welcome "home" "

Thanks Jill wrote on Apr 10, 2008 6:47 AM:

" To yippee, If you have a problem with Mr Gashler that's one thing, but to bring Jill into it is another. As Sec for the FD, she has been nothing but friendly, respectful and helpful to both career and part time staff, and a pleasure to work with.
Judging by your cheap shot post, I would go as far and say, her attitude towards her fellow employees, is so far above yours, you would have to stand on your mamas shoulders just to kiss her ... "

o2hxeawwa wrote on Apr 9, 2008 8:55 PM:

" Heres to Ed, your the best, a great HR for all City employees past and present. Heres to Mrs. Gaschler from a family that has done Ontario a great service, nothing but respect from those with level heads (you go get em Steve). Shame to those with egg on there faces let them eat crow so spice it up good Joe how does it taste yummie, also what good have you done, you appear nervous these days and is that sweat on you brow? No answers yet, you better consult with your print shop employees, right Mr Green Jeans, can you here me now ? "

That would be Mrs. Gaschler to you: wrote on Apr 9, 2008 8:06 AM:

" If you are a "yippee employee" I find that truly hard to believe. (Possibly a past disgruntled employee or maybe a particular City Official)
Mrs. Gaschler finds it very difficult to leave an awesome job with awesome people at City Hall. It sounds more like sour grapes from "whomever" wrote the blog. Move on, the good people who have left certainly have. All of them wishing and hoping nothing but the best for the City of Ontario and those left at City Hall. "

" Congratulations Ed!! I am truly happy to see that you've moved on. It's been less than a year since I left the City, but I couldn't be happier in my new position. I wish you only the best in yours. (ps. I didn't sign my name... hint: we share the same birthdate) "

" Another gashler buddy gone. Could not be happier for the revolving door and Mr Joe. Can hardly wait for Ms Gashler to go also. So refreshing to have new faces and honesty at city hall! "

another city employee wrote on Apr 7, 2008 6:41 PM:

" CONGRATES!!! I am so happy for you! I have enjoyed getting to know you, and I believe you will be so much happier at TVCC. Tell us, was it the money again that sent you away from the city. Or was it our esteemed leader and boss Joe. Please be honest, as Mr. Joe doesn't have a clue.
Thank you, and the best of luck at your dream job.
"

Homer wrote on Apr 7, 2008 11:04 AM:

" The Cities loss is TVCC gain. The revolving door at the City continues and we the taxpayers keep on footing the bill to recruit and train new people. Any manager worth his salt knows turnover is very expensive, in the meantime our Council still insists there is no problem. "

City Employee wrote on Apr 7, 2008 11:03 AM:

" Congratulations Ed!
TVCC is very fortunate to have you on their team. This is a perfect fit for you, however you will be extremely missed at the City. You have always shown hard work, integrity and respect and I know you will continue to bring those qualities to your new position.
Good luck. "
