Thousands show as Clinton makes first stop in Oregon

PORTLAND (AP) — Thousands of Oregonians packed a Hillsboro high school to hear Hillary Clinton on her first visit to Oregon as a presidential candidate. About 2,600 people packed the room at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, where the candidate was to speak Saturday morning. Thousands more were directed to an overflow room to hear her remarks. See story page A5.

Wanted man captured in northwest Oregon

CLATSKANIE (AP) — An attempted murder suspect has been arrested following a manhunt in northwest Oregon.

The authorities sought Patrick Allen McMillan on a warrant in Columbia County and a parole violation from the Oregon State Parole Board. The Oregon State Police says the 41-year-old crashed a car west of Rainier early Saturday and was on foot when a Rainier police officer spotted him and made the arrest.

Meth bust spawns more raids in Magic Valley

BURLEY (AP) — Law enforcement officers in the Magic Valley say information learned during a drug sting in Rupert last week is leading to more searches and arrests. Cassia County Sheriff’s Lt. Randy Kidd says information learned in the sting led investigators to serve a search warrant on a Burley home Thursday. Two people were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic illegal substances in connection with the search. Kidd says at least three more related drug raids are expected shortly.

Madison schools get history grant

IDAHO FALLS (AP) — The Madison School District has been awarded a federal grant worth $845,000 over three years.

The money from the U.S. Department of Education will be used to drill teachers on 15 focus points in American history.

Superintendent Geoffrey Thomas says the intensive training will help the teachers become enthusiastic about the subject.
