Payette netters fall to Weiser

Weiser—After a strong start against Nyssa and Homedale the Pirate tennis squad came out flat against Weiser. Weiser’s No. 1 boy Grayson Duren bested Payette’s Mike Rich 6-0, 6-2, Payette’s No. 2  boy Pedro Nunez fell to Weiser’s Cortlyn Davies 2-6, 1-6. Weiser defaulted the No. 3  boy’s match.  Payette dropped all three girl’s singles matches with No. 1 Debbie Krause falling to Weiser’s Liz Hullinger 1-6, 4-6, No. 2  Adriana Briscoe losing to Weiser’s Shae Duren 1-6, 0-6 and No. 3 Kristen Hickman defeated by Weiser’s Veronica Torres 0-6, 0-6. Payette managed a split in boy’s doubles with the No. 1 team of Aaron Griffin and Tar Asvanarunat losing to Weiser’s Rayne Loomis and Kevin Buqquist 2-6, 2-6 and the No. 2 team of Rico Gaeriner and Harry Ng defeating Weiser’s Isaac Gartung and Spencer Richardson 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.  Weiser swept the girls doubles category with Payette’s No. 1 team of Jeni Bennett and Nicole Sanchez losing to Weiser’s Mary Lancaster and Hallie Hopkins 1-6, 1-6 and the No. 2 team of Chandra Belvoir and Jeanna Jeffries dropping their match to Weiser’s Tanna Pettet and Erin Tolman 0-6, 0-6.  

Payette won both mixed doubles matches with the No. 1 team of Marc Soelberg and Cass Gross defeating Weiser’s Jim Roundtree and Erie Bokides 6-1, 6-3 and No. 2 Brandon Bake and Kendra Knighten defeating Weiser’s Will Grindstaff and Annie Ball 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

 “After starting the season with convincing wins over Nyssa and Homedale this was good wake up call for the team,” Payette coach Jim Franklin said.
