Ontario — On a cold, rainy afternoon in Ontario, Fruitland’s Peter Foss blazed a trail Wednesday at the Ontario High School Golf Tournament at the Ontario Golf Club.

Foss was the medalist with a tournament-leading 70 to guide the Grizzlies to a first-place finish with a team score of 320. Nampa Christian (359) earned second place honors while Ontario (368) and Parma (394) rounded out the rest of the field.

“We did not have a very good day,” Ontario head coach Randy Waite said. “The weather had something to do with that. It was windy, rainy, and it definitely affected the level of play. Give credit to Fruitland’s Peter Foss. The conditions did not bother him one bit.”

Peter Foss’ score was 10 better than teammate and twin brother Josh Foss, who carded an 80. Ty Pena (80), Nick Dhaenens (87) and Jake Crim (91) also turned in solid days for the front-runners.

Nampa Christian was led by John Hickey and Zeb Mowab, who each carded 86 tallies and teammate Marcus Lee finished up with an 87. Jared Curtis (100) and Adrian Foster (101) rounded out the rest of the Trojan squad.

The host Tigers put up some rough numbers with Chase Fields and Brad McGowan leading the way with 91 on the scorecards. Nick Rock and Dallas Brockett each carded a 93 on the day, while Robert Keyes added a 113.

Even though Waite was disappointed with the scores, he is happy with his group and looks for it to improve as the season progresses.

“We have four kids that are pretty good and they will get better and better as the year goes on,” Waite said.

Parma’s Ethan Napp led the charge for Parma with an 85 and teammate Travis Kiser added an 89.

Ryan Chaney (105) and Alex Chaney (115) struggled on the course for their scores.

Ontario next travels to Riverbend Golf Course in Homedale March 31.
