OREGON - Proposed scenic area casino splits tribes, Columbia River town
CASCADE LOCKS (AP) — A lawyer, doctor, bank and pharmacy are gone. The Gorge Gas and Mart is closed. The Gum Oak Restaurant, closed. Scenic Winds Motel, closed. Big D auto service, closed. An Internet facility, closed. Whisky Flats Mercantile, closed.
‘‘In the 1960s we had about 60 licensed businesses,’’ said Charles Daughtry, port manager in this former timber town in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. ‘‘We now have about 12, and half of them are for sale.’’ See story Page A5.

Canyon County sends out 10,000 delayed property tax bills
NAMPA (AP) — Property tax bills delayed by a computer software problem have finally been sent to more than 10,000 Canyon County residents.
County Treasurer Tracie Lloyd says the first installment on payments for some of the estimated 10,700 late tax billings may be due as early as next Thursday.
The bills, normally sent out in November and due in December, have been delayed for months because of new software the county is using in the billing process.
Allegations against Orofino officer referred to prosecutor
OROFINO (AP) — The Nez Perce County prosecutor’s office confirms it has received results of an investigation into allegations that an Orofino police officer had sex with a teenage girl.
No charges have been filed against the officer, who is not named.
Orofino Police Chief Jeffrey Wilson says in a release that Idaho State Police investigated the allegations that the officer engaged in sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old. The investigation was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
Wilson says the officer was placed on administrative leave with pay after the allegations surfaced and the officer was fired in December after an internal investigation.
