American Business Woman’s Association celebrates birthday
Raising scholarship funds for the local community through annual sale of deliciously inspiring culinary herbs



Master gardener Annya Dethman, Eagle, is provider of the culinary herbs available for the annual ABWA ‘Flowers for Scholarships’ fund raiser.
Ontario — The Four River’s Charter Chapter of the American Buiness Woman’s Association met Tuesday evening to celebrate their 32nd birthday.

The group’s mission is to bring women together and to help one and other grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, support and national recognition.

The particular emphais of the Four River’s Charter Chapter is to raise money for scholarhip funds to empart to area women who are looking to further their education or reeducate themeselves in order to begin a career or embark on a new one.

One of the ways the association raises funds is through its annal “Flowers for Scholarships” plant sale.

Annya Dethman, master gardner and owner of Good Scents Herb Nursery, Eagle, is the supplier for the herbs sold through the fund-raiser.

She gave a 40 minute talk at Tuesday’s meeting concerning the particulars of growing, havesting, storing and cooking with culinary herbs.

Dethman spoke energetically of the creativity herbs can insipre in the kitchen, from lavender iced tea, to using basil in unexpected places, such as the desert menu. 

Dethman is native to Washinton state, growing up near the famous lavander farms there. She owned and opperated a retail nusery which she recently sold to focus more on providing a swath of traditional and specialty culinary herbs at the Eagle farmer’s market.

The plant pick-up is slated from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 9 at the Argus Observer Press Room, 1160 S.W. 4th Street, Ontario.
