Dale graduated from Nyssa High School in 1940 and spent one year attending Oregon State University. He went to work in 1941 as an electrician for Western Electric and moved to The Dalles, Ore.

After 40 years with the company, he retired in 1987.

During his life, Dale was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and, later in his life, he became an avid golfer. Both he and Maxine enjoyed the game of golf and would take their golf clubs with them whenever they traveled.
