Ontario — Elvira Eudelia Herrera, 53, of Ontario, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008, at her home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ontario, with vault interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario.
Elvira was born on April 20, 1954, in Asherton, Texas, to Victor and Adelfa Parras. Her family then migrated to Woodburn, Ore., in 1964. She lived there until the age of 14. She then moved to Ontario, Ore., where she later attended Ontario High and met and married her husband, Victor Herrera Jr. Victor and Elvira had five children: two sons, Victor Herrera III and David, and three daughters, Tonia, Noemi and Eudelia. They loved their children dearly and enjoyed raising their children. Her husband died on April 12, 1997, and Elvira continued to raise her children. She later met Estevan Torres, and together they continued to raise Noemi, Eudelia and some grandchildren.
As a mother, she will be remembered as a loving, compassionate and nurturing mother so full of life. She taught her children the meaning of unconditional love and that all is possible as long as you believe in yourself.
As a sister and friend, she will be remembered as a strong-willed, independent and outgoing woman, so courageous and full of life. She lived a life that was never afraid to try new things or adventures.
Elvira is preceded in death by her husband, Victor, and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Victor (Rosemary) Herrera III, Tonia (Tony) Castilleja, David (Elvira) Herrera, Noemi Herrera and Eudelia (Derek) Powell; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Victor and Joe Parras; and six sisters, Elida Perales, Maria Cuellar, Anita Torres, Enedina Flores, Ida Guzman and Sylvia Tyerina.
