Meridian — The 2008 Boys Real Dairy Shoot Out kicks off today at Meridian High School. The Fruitland Grizzlies (17-2, 8-0) play in Game 2 against Sugar-Salem (14-10, 5-3) at 3 p.m.
The Griz posted two losses to La Grande during non-league action but won all other games during the season, including a sweep of the district III 3A tournament.
The Weiser Wolverines (14-7, 3-3) play Snake River (9-6, 4-1) during game four Today at 8 pm.
The Wolverines had a tough run of luck against Fruitland over the course of Snake River League action and lost three straight to the Griz.
Both Fruitland and Weiser will have to win their first round games in order to advance to at least third place in state. If either team loses in the first round they will automatically go into the consolation bracket where a fourth place finish will be the best they can do.
If Fruitland takes game two over Sugar-Salem they will then face the winner of game one, Shelley vs. Bonners Ferry. If, on the other hand, Weiser beats out Snake River in game four, they will advance to face the winner of game three, Kimberly vs. Kellogg.
Both teams have their work cut out for them and today will get the chance to play for the state title.
